AP Music Theory: First Impressions
First Impressions: I don't think that AP music theory will be an extremely difficult class as long as I put the effort in and apply myself. It does help that i've been in band since 5th grade and I know a small portion of the material, however, I know that I will be learning things I have never even seen nor heard of before. I'm excited to see what this class brings me and what I get out of it.
Experience: I’ve been in band since 5th grade so I know how to count, read. and label music. I know a lot of different band terms such as “tempo” or “rhythm.” I know how to play the clarinet, tune, match articulation, etc. By the end of the year I do hope to learn a lot more than I think I already know. I may have experience but I never really applied myself as hard as I wished I had until my junior and senior year of high school.
Music I like: I listen to Alternative/Rock music. Heathens by Twenty One Pilots is really good, as well as Holiday by Green Day (Favorite band and song). I've always loved music since I was a little kid and I never thought I'd have such a passion for it like I do now. I'm glad I chose to play AND study music because it's something that helps me cope and keeps me calm.
What I hope to gain: I hope to be able to read music better and more in depth as well as learn more band terms and what they mean. I hope to leave this class knowing a lot more than I think I already know and to be able to sing and match pitch in my voice to other individuals voices much easier, as well as to get over the fear of singing in front of people. My goal is to leave this class feeling like a music expert, or close to it. As long as I apply myself and do my work I know that I can get there.
What i’ve wanted to learn but never asked: I was always afraid to ask how to read music better than I already can because there’s always room for improvement. I also want to learn how to count better but i've never asked because I feel as if that's something I should already know how to do really well. I never paid close attention in middle school band and it really came back to bite me in the butt because when I started high school band I had absolutely no idea how to count, however, i'm slowly but surely getting there.
