9/11 Reflection
Compared to last year our 9/11 ceremony went very well. We had better dynamics and focused a lot more on the pieces we played this year. It was a beautiful ceremony and I was proud of the band as a whole. It made me excited for my last year in band and to see how well we will do the rest of the school year. It also didn't take us a large amount of time to learn the pieces that we played. We went through them a few times and added some better dynamics and came to the conclusion that we were ready to perform in front of the high school, grade school, and the staff. We started on time, unlike last year, and focused more on what we were playing and how we were playing it. I don't think some kids took the ceremony seriously last year, and a majority, almost all, of the kids this year had their head in the game and were prepared to play their instruments.
For me, I worked a lot harder on the music for the ceremony than I did last year. I wrote down any possible notes that I didn't know and any dynamics that we decided to add along the way. I attempted to help anyone in my section that needed it and didn't talk at all during class or use my phone while we learned the music. It was my fourth and final year playing for the 9/11 ceremony so it was definitely easier for me to play than it was for the freshmen. I could have just sat back and relaxed in class while the others read over their music, but I still chose to give it my all, especially because it's my last year and I want to end with a bang. I really do enjoy the ceremony that we put on at the high school, it's short, simple, and sweet. I feel as if the band adds a bit more meaning to the ceremony and makes it sound even more put together.
