* Overall, when I started band this year the only scales I knew by memory were the major scales; I didn't really know any of the minor scales. The scales I know by memory I've known since last year because of solo and ensemble. I had to memorize scales and I worked really hard on them, but only the major scales. I would look at the scales and play them, then I would turn my stand around and play them by memory until I was 110% positive I knew them by heart. I also memorized the circle of fifths in order to help me determine my key signature for all of my scales. This year I have to do the same exact thing with the minor scales. To reach my goal of memorizing all of the scales I need to practice not just in band, but outside of band as well. I need to continue to play my scales and turn my stand around to play them by memory until I am completely sure that I know them.
